Cambodian Cuisine is a new trend

Does it make your mouth water?
Cambodian cuisine has been named ‘the new food of 2008 by Conde Nast-owned website epicurious.com, which incoporates top US magazines Bon Appetit and Gourmet saying it would throw down a gauntlet to Thai food’s universal popularity (according to the Cambodia Weekly).

What makes it special? As it says, “Cambodian food has stronger flavors than Vietnamese, slightly more subtle than Thai and is not as heavy as Chinese. It has a taste of the orient without the spice, and was pefect for the weight-conscious wealthy.” Furthermore, Chef Luu Meng from Malis Restaurant, a well-known Cambodian restaurant, said that there are fewer chemicals in Cambodian ingredients and they have tremendous flavours. “A triangulation between Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai cooking, Cambodian’s emphasis on noodle dishes, curries, stir fries and prahok, the strong-flavoured fish paste, will grow in popularity.”

What about you? What Khmer food do you like best? πŸ˜€

  1. I do agree with you that Cambodian cuisine has it unique taste if it cooks in original Cambodian style just like those home-cooked meal [where spices are used in accordance to the dish itself, for instance, our curry is lot different from Thai and Indian, may look really golden red but little hot/spicy] however, most of the dishes in restaurant have the mixed concept and creative tastes from either Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese

  2. You should become a food journalist, why every fields that you touch on, you always write such a good story like this. you might work for my guide book”Si & Pheok” in the future if you wish.

  5. Hi Kounila;
Sorry for the misunderstanding on my part on who is who [Peter and you].

I have a few websites [www.angkor138.wordpress.com, http://www.angkor138.blogsot.com, http://www.angkor1138.multiply.com]. Welcome to visit or exchange link any time, but must warn you that most of the sites are about nonsense stuffs which you may not be interested at all.

  6. Kounila,
Thank you for putting my name on your blog link.

It looks yummy! I like it all, spicy/hot, sour, bitter. Bring it on. Over here things either refrigerated or frozen, but not that bad either.

  7. Thanks, Mr.Angkor for your contribution to my blog. πŸ˜€

    Hi Brother Vannak,

Yeah, great, you are not that picky like me :D..haha

I’ve heard of the western foods…but I am wondering why those people are too tall or big..haha…are you too?

  8. Kounila,
Picky only when there are choices. If there is only a few, you have to either put up or shut up, and I have to put up with it and get used to it.

Not all Americans are tall, except basketball players, very tall 6 feet 5″ or up. Some are short like us too. They are open and friendly that what I like.

I am not tall, just average.

That’s right. When we have just a few, we can’t be choosers. Sorry to say,(a proverb) beggars can’t be choosers. πŸ˜€

    Haha..I’m taller..:-p

  10. The picture at the foot of this note “Spiritual class”, just wonder if it’s about Christianity or other?

  11. Oh, thanks very much for your question. This spiritual class isn’t about any religion, neither Buddhism nor christianity. It is truly about the inner spirit of us.:D..inexplicable feeling πŸ˜€

I believe each person should have a religion inside of themselves. But,look, some of the students in the picture might be Christian. I don’t care. The most important is their true spirit πŸ˜€

  12. Thank you for explaining. Sound very good that someone can teach and guide us to our truth and inner self.

  13. It’s very hard to understand. There are many factors that help you get to know your inner self. Each and every one of us can experience it only if we take a minute we have to think about this breath we take every moment. There is nothing better than knowing that you are breathing and looking for another brighter and sunny or rainy day from now on. If people are satisfied with self-knowledge inside of themselves, other material things can’t fool or even satisfy them like self-knowledge does. That is why people need to have peace (inside of themselves). Then, they don’t need to go search for it somewhere else, that brings problems and worry and everything else..

Please excuse me if what I have written above is hard to understand.

  14. Thank you Kounila!

“It’s very hard to understand. There are many factors that help you get to know your inner self”.

Yes, I do agree with you that it is hard to understand and it is not easy to get to know our inner self for who we are human being tend to explore options but not wanting to commit ourselves to all practical discipline in which may be appropriate for us to follow.

“other material things can’t fool or even satisfy them like self-knowledge does”.

Self-knowledge is very important but do we really satisfy with our self-knowledge these days, in particular the evolutions that are currently going around our small world where material needs dominant our state of mind.

I hope and happy to learn more of your spiritual class and thank people who finally can teach and guide us to understand the state of our inner self for better life – happiness.

  15. Self-knowledge is very important but do we really satisfy with our self-knowledge these days, in particular the evolutions that are currently going around our small world where material needs dominant our state of mind.

I understand this. It’s true we see that now people don’t do this, dont’think like this. I think this is because they dont’know what they are looking for is inside them. Men search for fortunes while women seek for beauty. They want this and that. The very one thing they want is to be happy. But they wrongly believe that all the material things can satisfy them or make them happy. Can they? What I want to say is that people don’t need to go the mountaintop just to be a hermit to be happy. We can live in this small world but we don’t let things fool us. That’s all that counts. On the other hand, people make wars because they believe wars bring peace. In fact, everything comes from within. You can control your mind, body and soul. If you want to be happy for now, you smile and think of your invaluable life now :), you’re happy. There’s nothing that’s better than life right now :)…

Am I hard to understand? πŸ˜€

  16. You really hit the head of the nail. I can conclude your statement by saying “You definitely understand your inner self better than the rest of us regarding Happiness”, which many of us see it in different way, which many of us interpret it differently, which many of us still struggle come to term with the meaning of our Happiness = ego, impulse, pride, greed, external materials driven so and so and forth.

    Congratulation Kounila!

I hope at one point in life, people will realize it. But I’d just like to point out that we seem to pay much more attention to the outside world while we seem to forget about how we are feeling and what we indeed want in this life…

haha..congratulate me? Honestly, I’m in the process of trying to understand my inner self .heehee…thanks..

  18. You are too moderated.

My point of view on people who is in the process of understanding a thing can not elaborate or explain thing to other but in you case you can say it directly to the point.

Or may be, I misunderstood your point, is it right? If so you can re-direct me.

  19. Am I too moderated? Actually, to understand it really better, could you please collobarate it? πŸ˜€

My point of view on people who is in the process of understanding a thing can not elaborate or explain thing to other but in you case you can say it directly to the point.
You’re right. I couldn’t agree more, with the fact that when someone is in love, for example, he/she can’t elaborate it.Love and happiness are two hard-to-explain things. They can only be felt. lhaha…

You didn’t misunderstand me but I misunderstood you. haha..

  20. I should have used the correct word “Modest instead of Moderate” from the beginning therefore you don’t have to coma back and ask me to elaborate.

    thank you.

  21. When? Oh, I am considering it…at the moment, I’d like to post something sensitive..but I will never forget something happy and freshy! πŸ˜€
